5 mins with new MP member Em Teare

Why triathlon?
I love the mix of doing three different activities, not always together however! I did my first triathlon two years ago in London and was hooked. I have always enjoyed a challenge and completing a triathlon ticks that box for me!
What is your background in sport?
I used to do a lot of three-day eventing in the equestrian world and competed for my country when I was at school. I grew up playing team sports and took a particular liking to lacrosse and tennis.
What sort of exercise are you doing at the moment?
I am training with MP four times a week as part of the cycling and running membership and try to fit in a swim once a week.
What are your goals?
I would love to break 2h40 in the standard (Olympic) tri and complete the Husky Long Course in Feb 2019.
Are there any challenges you’ve had to overcome to compete in triathlon?
Open water swimming and dealing with the constant worry of the Aussie sharks!
Is there a race you’re focused on and do you have a goal time you’re hoping to achieve?
Husky long course in Feb 2019. It will be my first 70.3 distance so anything under 5hrs 45 I would be happy with.
An Interesting fact about you.
I sell pet food!
If you were to join a book club of sporting/motivational books what would you recommend to read?
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck
Where do you live?
Paddington – so I don’t forget my English origin!
Where are you originally from?
Manchester, UK
What talent do you wish you had?
I would love to be better at music and be able to sing whilst playing the guitar round a camp fire!
What’s your favourite book, film or artist?
Since moving to Sydney two years ago the Aussie National Anthem, Daryl Braithwaite’s – Horses is my new favourite song!
What’s your post-race meal go to?
Steak sandwich and chips followed by a chocolate brownie.
Do you have an inspirational quote?
‘If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you’ Fred DeVito.
